Middle School Principal
Welcome to the wonderful world of Middle School! Grades 6-8 present a number of challenges as students move into adolescence and begin to tackle real-world issues. The dynamics of the day to day interaction with each student provides the rare opportunity to embrace young people at their points of need. Whether it is academic, social, relational, or spiritual, we stand ready to provide the framework for success as students head toward high school.
Our staff from one year ago remains intact with the exception of Kaleigh Beason who comes to us from the high school at HGCS to teach 6th grade Science. There are minor variations to each teacher's responsibilities but their subject area emphasis remains the same. Amanda Wigley will once again provide counseling services as needed on a daily basis. All of our Bible students will experience the Greek language as it will be embedded into the Bible curriculum at each grade level. Billy Hutchinson, the chairperson of our Bible department, has developed the Greek curriculum. Grammar will be an integral part of the English program in grades 6-8 with Shurley Grammar as the selected text for this emphasis. Reveal Math is the new textbook adoption for all of our Math students. Study Skills I will once again be required for our 6th graders and Study Skills II will be added this year for our 7th graders. The 6th graders will also be the beneficiaries of a new History curriculum which take the place of the former Geography format. Algebra I will be offered for certain 7th and 8th-grade students and our 8th graders will once again have the opportunity to complete a full year of Spanish. Both of these courses carry high school credit upon successful completion.
We want to make it a priority to be available and accessible for questions and concerns. Please do not hesitate to call to make arrangements for conferences at any time. Your calls and emails will be taken seriously and responses should be forthcoming expeditiously. We will continue to make your child`s spiritual growth a priority. Through regular Bible study, presentations from our pastoral staff, discipleship groups, and chapel programs, our prayer is that each student will develop a personal relationship with our living Lord. Our heart's desire is to come alongside each family and embrace the academic, athletic, and performing arts components of the total school program. All the while, the overarching theme will be to develop young champions for Christ, ready to embrace all that God has destined them to become. Please join me in praying that lives will be changed for eternity during the 2019-2020 academic year at HGCS.
