I am currently in my 3rd year as Middle School Principal at HGCS. We are excited to continue to offer a challenging curriculum while incorporating a Biblical worldview into every lesson. Our teachers are committed to making certain that our students are well prepared for high school while making certain that they are discipled during this critical stage of their maturation process. We believe strongly that the component of Biblical tenets, combined with discipline and compassion is the perfect prescription for managing the many challenges that face today's teenagers. This year, we have incorporated a study of Greek into the Bible curriculum. The goal is for these students to have a background in this language as a backdrop for enhancement of their literacy skills. We meet each month with small group Discipleship sessions, all students participate in intramural sports, and through expanded Honors offerings, our gifted population can exceed grade level expectations. Our Student Center for Advancement is serving a significant portion of our grade 6-8 population under the leadership of Andrew Stover. Students with learning differences are given a wide array of academic support tools in this setting. The Performing Arts Department continues to grow under the leadership of Abigail Robertson (Drama, Choir, and Musical Theater) and La Nette Crowe with our Band Program. New staff this year includes Philip Young-6th and 7th grade Bible, Jennifer Massie-6-8 Visual Arts, Austin Turner-6-8 PE, and Kaleigh Beason-6th grade Science.

Middle School presents a unique set of academic and co-curricular concerns. It is vital that students become acclimated to strong study habits, recognition of their potential care pathways, and a greater understanding of interpersonal skills. We offer guidance services to those who are struggling in any of these areas and provide parent orientations to some of the typical questions that arise that are related to Middle School education. I want parents to know that we are all available and accessible to answer and questions that may arise that are related to academics, behavior, athletics, or the spiritual formation that fully defines who we are as a school. The overarching theme of everything we do is an intentional effort to be certain that Christ is high and lifted up and every class effectively embeds the message of the Gospel into each lesson. Thank you for entrusting your child into our care during this very important phase of their growth. We pledge to come alongside you in the effort to provide meaningful experiences and open dialogue throughout these critical years.

In Christ alone,
