Athletics

The mission of Hickory Grove Christian School athletics is to know Christ and to make him known. We not only want our programs to be successful but we want to be significant! Our goals will include winning games and championships, but we want to set our eyes even higher than that! We will seek to glorify God and exalt Christ in all we do (Matthew 6:33), we will strive to have great discipleship on our teams (1 Peter 5:2), and our coaches will be great teachers of the game (1 Tim 4:8). Sports can teach many lessons, including discipline, hard work, and leadership, and we can use them to point to Christ!

Hickory Grove Christian School offers a variety of middle school and high school athletic programs in which student-athletes can participate. Hickory Grove Athletics is made up of 28 teams participating in 14 different sports for our student body beginning in the 6th grade. Hickory Grove is a member of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) and the Metrolina Athletic Conference (MAC). ;

OUR PHILOSOPHY

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men."
Colossians 3:23

Hickory Grove Christian School offers a variety of middle school and high school athletic teams for student-athletes to participate in. While Hickory Grove Christian athletics are committed to competing and winning at the highest level there are different expectations at the middle school and high school levels. Every level will put a heavy emphasis on glorifying Christ, discipleship, and teaching the game.

Middle School Athletic Philosophy (Grades 6 - 8)

Hickory Grove Christian middle school athletic teams have a focus on skill and team development. Middle school players will focus on learning the skills and rules necessary to compete well in their chosen sport. Playing time will be based on skills, athleticism and attendance. However, it is still the coach's decision on who plays and for how long. Try-outs and cuts may be utilized in determining a team roster.

High School Athletic Philosophy (Grades 9 - 12)

Hickory Grove Christian high school athletics strive to compete successfully at the highest level. Even while we strive for perfection we will not have the attitude of "win at whatever cost." High school level athletics are for student-athletes that have more advanced skills in their sport. The athlete will continue to develop their skills while learning the nuances and strategies for advancing and winning in their sport. Playing time will be determined by the coach and players are to accept their role on the team. Try-outs and cuts may be utilized in determining a team roster.
