Digital Arts

Digital Arts

In our Digital Arts program, high school students learn photography, design, video and journalism by doing the real thing: capturing and telling the story of life at HGCS. They produce the yearbook families keep for a lifetime and the weekly broadcast our school watches every Friday. Students work with professional tools on real deadlines, and they learn to see their creative work as stewardship of the gifts God has given them.

Students build a foundation in cameras, composition and storytelling through Yearbook or Photography & Design, then move into video and broadcast production in Digital Media I and II. The pathway ends with the Communications Internship, where advanced students serve as part of the school’s communications team.

Students produce Exodus, the HGCS yearbook. Working as a staff, they capture a full year of life across our school, from TK through 12th grade, and learn camera fundamentals, interviewing, copywriting and page layout along the way.

  • Develop the book’s theme and design
  • Photograph, interview, write and design their own spreads in Walsworth’s design platform
  • Student editors lead the staff, manage the schedule and guide the book to print
  • Each spring, the staff produces a Senior Magazine celebrating the graduating class

Students learn the fundamentals of digital photography and visual design, then put them to work serving our school community. Each class begins with a devotion, and students learn to think critically about honesty in photo editing, AI-generated images and social media.

  • Portrait, sports, event, product and landscape photography
  • A professional editing workflow in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
  • Typography, color and layout for print and digital media
  • The Senior Portrait Service Project, in which each student plans and shoots a portrait session for an HGCS senior

Digital Media I (10th–12th) & Digital Media II (11th–12th

Students learn video production by producing HG360, our weekly student broadcast. Each week they research what’s happening at HGCS, write scripts, cover school and athletic events, interview members of our community and edit in Adobe Premiere Pro.

  • Digital Media I: Rotate through every crew role: producer, camera and audio, editor and on-camera anchor
  • Digital Media I projects: A 60-second story, event recaps, a teacher or staff feature, and a final video of the student’s own design
  • Digital Media II: Lead the broadcast in roles such as executive producer and director
  • Digital Media II projects: Podcasting, social media content and a cinematic short film

By application · Prerequisite: Yearbook II or Digital Media I (or portfolio)
