Expected Student Outcomes
At Hickory Grove Christian School, our mission is to disciple students in the Gospel story of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, equipping them to be Committed to God, Connected to the Mission, and Wise in Christ. The call to live in a Christ-honoring way is grounded in His perfect life. In teaching worldviews and apologetics, we do more than dismantle competing ideas—we build, from their broken foundations, a biblically grounded worldview rooted in the unchanging truths of Scripture. The call to live in a Christ-honoring way is grounded in His perfect life. In teaching worldviews and apologetics, we do more than dismantle competing ideas—we build, from their broken foundations, a biblically grounded worldview rooted in the unchanging truths of Scripture.
We believe each student is uniquely created in God's image, and we care for each student's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Our purpose is to cultivate disciples of Christ who carry the torch of learning, passing it on to both their generation and the ones that follow. While we cannot guarantee the outcome we seek, a clear vision keeps our teaching, mentoring, and community life focused on that eternal goal.
HGCS is committed to a holistic approach, preparing students to follow Christ in every sphere—spiritually, academically, socially, physically, and mentally—and equipping them to communicate the hope of the Gospel to a broken world.
Our three Expected Student Outcomes describe the graduate our mission forms:
- Committed to God: Devoted to the Lord with rightly ordered loves
- Connected to the Mission: Joined to the body of Christ in shared mission
- Wise in Christ: Discerning between the biblical wisdom of God and the wisdom of the world
Committed to God orders our loves, Connected to the Mission orders our relationships with others, and Wise in Christ orders and elevates our day-to-day pursuit of knowledge.
Our desire is to prepare students not only for success during their years at HGCS, but for a life of lasting purpose, influence, and impact for the Kingdom of God.

Devoted to the Lord with rightly ordered loves
At Hickory Grove Christian School, the Christian faith forms the foundation of all we do, as we seek Christ first in every endeavor. Augustine described the Christian life as the right ordering of our loves: God first, then neighbor, then the good gifts of this world in their proper place (Matthew 22:37-39). Even good things, like academics, athletics, the arts, friendships, and family, become functional gods when we love them more than the Lord.
We believe students should first gain knowledge of the Bible (notitia), be led to recognize Christ as divine (assensus), and ultimately place their trust in Him (fiducia). This growth happens over time through worship, prayer, Scripture reading, and Christian community.
Our students will:
- Know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
- Live virtuous lives as disciples of Christ, displaying the fruits of the Spirit.
- Develop a growing and compelling faith.
- Practice spiritual disciplines as regular habits.
- Engage with culture through the lens of apologetics.
- Live missionally, as Great Commission ambassadors.
Our aim is to nurture students who are spiritually grounded and prepared to live out their faith in a broken world.
-
Joined to the body of Christ in shared mission
God created people in His image and made them for community; as Genesis 2:18 says, it is not good that the man should be alone. At Hickory Grove Christian School, students grow as members of the body of Christ across four overlapping communities: the school, the home, Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and the broader body of Christ.
Through discipleship and Christian relationships with faculty, peers, families, and the local church, we want students to truly know others in Christ rather than settle for social belonging or digital connection.
Our students will:
- Recognize that all people are made in the image of God.
- Seek to promote righteousness and justice within the school and broader society.
- Cultivate spiritually healthy relationships with individuals and cultures, both in person and online.
- Embrace a spirit of service across diverse economic conditions, races, and groups.
- Build up one another through accountability, encouragement, hospitality, and service.
We aim to prepare our students to engage the world around them with both wisdom and compassion, as ambassadors of Christ.

Discerning between the biblical wisdom of God and the wisdom of the world
Scripture tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). At Hickory Grove Christian School, we strive for students to be wise, discerning, and competent, learning to tell the wisdom from above apart from the wisdom of the world (James 3:13-17). Every subject is taught through the lens of Scripture, in an academically stimulating environment that prepares students to meet future challenges with confidence and faith.
Wisdom also shapes how students order their lives. Through biblical literacy, Sabbath rest, and faithful stewardship of time and gifts, we help students order their work, rest, study, and play, and tend to their physical, mental, and emotional well-being rather than overworking.
Our students will:
- Understand that learning is a lifelong process, pursued with honesty and integrity.
- Employ diverse approaches to learning, always viewing academics through a biblical worldview.
- Communicate effectively and confidently through various tools, both verbal and written.
- Cultivate a deep knowledge and appreciation of Scripture, the Arts, and core academic disciplines.
- Use their education to prepare for college, careers, and life, with a clear sense of purpose.
- Embrace failures and persevere through challenges, seeing both as essential parts of their educational growth.
- Critically analyze and evaluate sources as they seek solutions to the brokenness in the world.
- Practice a balanced, thoughtful approach to their digital lives and the use of technology.
- Develop healthy habits that nurture both mind and body, recognizing that the health of one impacts the other.
- Trust that all events, whether joyful or challenging, are ordained by God for the ultimate good of His children.
By instilling these principles, we aim to develop students who are not only academically capable but also spiritually grounded and prepared to impact the world for Christ.
